This August, I am once again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This August, I am once again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Why? Cancer is the largest killer of kids in Canada with 27 children being diagnosed every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it. So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer. I can't imagine going through what some of these kids go through - raising money is a small thing I can do to help them and help cancer research. Please donate now and support my challenge to fight kids' cancer! Your support will change little lives. I also invite you to ride with me!

Last year, when I bought a trailer for our pup, Oliver, a friend said, "of course you did". How else would the little guy be able to come on all the bike adventures?! This picture is from last August. Oliver is bigger now and the kennel in no longer needed in the trailer.
It was warm today and the sun was shining! We decided to bike up to Cottonwood along the highway and take the rail trail back to town. We thought there could be a bit of snow at the Cottonwood end, and we were right! It's all part of the adventure. I think Oliver liked this part the most - happy to be rolling in the snow.
Since we were there, we decided to walk the bikes over the snowy bits. Once we got to the first bridge, it was all clear! Nelson to Crescent Valley and back - via Blewett and 49 Creek. Great day for a ride! The sun was shining, the weather warm, and not a whole lot of traffic.
For those of you who live in the area, you know what a big hill is at 49 Creek. It was no problem on our e-bikes! I wasn't so sure, but coming back home up that hill was great! We made it back before the rain too - or maybe it just missed us. What an amazing day here. T-shirt and short weather - and time for a ride!
A jaunt up the rail trail toward Cottonwood - until we hit... snow?! Locked up the bikes and went for a walk along the trail. Back the other way was clear riding - and a stop at the DQ for a treat before heading up the big hill home. So great to be able to head out right from home realizing the big uphill return isn't a deal breaker. I think one of the best purchases in years is our Voltbikes. If you want one, head to voltbike.com and tell them Anne Cavicchi sent ya! Warm and partially sunny day in the Koots! So we rode to the trail access at the top of Gore Street and rode to Troupe (and back of course ;) ). I have been on the trail a few times walking, but never that end of it or that far. Chatted to a fellow who said he just ordered a bike just like mine - he was keen to see it. He was out for a walk with his senior dog and told me he has ordered a trailer for the doggo too. Very cool! Happy trails! If you want a Voltbike of your own, go to voltbike.com and please tell them Anne Cavicchi sent ya! Just cruising around today. Big ups and downs on the way to and from Blewett - great ride! The sunshine felt pretty darn good too.
Wow! We ordered a Volt Bravo for my husband on the weekend... and it arrived today! We had been out for a walk and when we got home it was there waiting for us. Take it out of the box, pop on the pedals and the handlebar (it really is that easy), give the battery a charge, and he'll be good to go!
There's still snow on the ground here at my house, but the roads are clear (except for all the sand and gravel from winter) - so it was time for a ride!
Saturday was around town, to the park, and home again. Today I had to run an errand so took the bike. Timed the trip from downtown to the top of Rosemont - 10 minutes. Not a hard ride now - just a very steady uphill. Hubby has ordered one now too ;) I thought of getting an electric bike for a while. After careful consideration and looking at far too many different models, reviews, videos, and more, I decided on a VoltBike Elegant. I guess I am not the only one as they were back-ordered. I know the pandemic also created more demand for e-bikes as this was the case for many companies. Anyhoo, the wait was a long one (4 1/2 months).... but at last, my e-bike arrived! Just in time for winter haha! The company was good about communicating and letting me know of the delay.
After a super easy 'out of the box' experience (put on the pedals and attach the handlebars), and a charge of the battery, I was excited and ready to roll. So what if it's November and darn near freezing? The sun was shining! One ride and I am hooked. I didn't take any pictures because I just didn't think of it while I was riding. I was just so darn glad to be out on my bike! The Koots have some pretty big hills, but the e-bike helped me up them with no problem whatsoever. With prices starting at $1599, it delivers many of he features of a more expensive bike at far less cost (always a good thing to me). They are a Canadian business based here in BC, so they know our terrain! From their website: VoltBike Elegant has everything you want and everything you need. Its lightweight, aluminum, step-through frame gives you easy adaptability and freedom of movement. The 500 Watt maintenance-free rear-wheel-drive Bafang motor combined with 48v Panasonic Li-ion battery ensures this bicycle can comfortably take you up any hill and makes easy riding against strong winds. VoltBike Elegant received a major update in June 2020. We added hydraulic disc brakes so you get the same stopping power as the bigger model Yukon 750. We increased the size of the battery to 16Ah so you can go even further. I look forward to sharing my rides and hope to see you out riding sometime! |
AuthorI'm a new e-bike enthusiast! I was big into cycling for recreation years ago. But then life happened and cycling went by the wayside. After years away from being on a bicycle, I decided to take the plunge and get an e-bike. It is fantastic! Archives
